Event Title: “Defending Truth, Privacy, and Information Integrity”
I. Details of the event/activity
The subject of the online webinar I went to was Defending Truth, Privacy, and Information Integrity. The principles of privacy, misinformation, disinformation, and how social media work are the main topics of this webinar, as well as how we should be aware of them. The event was hosted on September 16, 2023, via Zoom and the Facebook platform, and it was organized by the DICT Cybersecurity Bureau under the project name "#DigiTalino - Defending, Truth, Privacy, and Information Integrity" in collaboration with the ASEAN Foundation, ASEAN Digital Literacy Program, Google.org, Break The Fake Movement, and Curipod. The keynote speaker for the event will be LPT Mr. Allan Custodio, a Master Trainer from the ASEAN Digital Literacy Programmed (ADLP).
II. Reflections on the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings)
I gained a lot of knowledge from this webinar about how social media and the internet in general are replacing word-of-mouth, books, academic journals, magazines, newspapers, radio, and television as the primary sources of information. Since the turn of the century, the globe has been considerably more linked because to the constant availability of new content, updated information, and limitless real-time communication. However, this connectivity comes with a price because some users will use it to purposefully mislead others about what is true or not.
Which I understand that misinformation and disinformation are two different things; one generates false information unintentionally, while the other does it with the aim of harming; yet, both of them deceive individuals while others will cause them to doubt their own judgment. The most effective tactic is misinformation and deception because it takes use of human psychology, technological flaws, and the complexity of contemporary information ecosystems. For individuals and societies, critical thinking, media literacy, fact-checking, and responsible information intake are crucial abilities.
III. Reflections on possibilities on implementing some of the webinar input on a practical level (practical application of learning)
My personal life will benefit greatly from this course. It helps me become more conscious of my surroundings and teach me to have faith in other people. Additionally, it enables me to improve, learn, and teach others about how to protect their own lives, which depend on them.
IV. Positive feedback (on the event organization)
The webinar was a lot of fun, and it got us talking to the speaker. Even the speaker is having fun in front of the audience to demonstrate that our viewpoints are practically identical.
V. Suggestions for improvements to be made/consider for future activities
Although occasional delays occur when the anticipated time has already gone and they are rescheduled, this is the only area that I believe needs to be improved. But overall, I can't comment, which is a good thing in my book.
